Hello all, onlineworker is here with new sequence of articles for you. There have been some comments where you write that you want to know more about wordpress. So I created this category for everyone and here in the first article you will learn about what the wordpress is and how to start with installation.
The content of this article will be:
- What is wordpress
- Why choose wordpress as my favorite CMS
- Preparing things for installation
- Install wordpress CMS on my own domain
1.What is wordpress
The wordpress as you can know is some kind of something called CMS. CMS means content management system. This means that you have something which can manage your website content to great user friendly interface.
This CMS is fully compatible with all sources of humanity so you don’t need to know anything about website programming languages and you still can use them to make your own website.
this CMS systems like wordpress started in past of years the blogging era because they are too easy to use and everyone can have now own website without any programming skills. You don’t need to be professional website programmer to start with making your own online website for whatever you want. now we have wordpress and this is everything what you need.
2. Why choose wordpress as my favorite CMS?
This has very simple answer. WordPress is one of the best online scripts which has really big community around. If you want to help with it, you really find someone who have solution for you. Repository of wordpress doesn’t really contain everything what you might want but with great help of this really big community you can find what you need very fast.
Second thing which makes it so great to use is its transformation possibilities. If you read something about wordpress before, you can know that it is the blogging script. But with right plug-in modules you can turn the wordpress to everything what you want. You need company presentation website? You can find great responsitive theme which will have some blocks and modules to do it as well. You want e-shop? Try to use woocommerce plugin. this will turn your wordpress website to fully modifiable e-shop.
This is great thing to do everything what you want to do on the internet. You can turn it to everything what you want and if you didn’t find what you looking for, in the community you can find a lot of programmers who will make your personal websites for some amount of money. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money for websites, you can use wordpress repository to find some great theme for your website and some great plug-in modules.
Next category are paied plug-ins and themes. This can really help you to look professionally on the internet. This themes are nice and great to use by you. But they cost you some more money otherwise some of them have monthly paied methodes. About some of them I wrote in previous categories.
So as you can now know that the wordpress is really great and modifiable system which gives you a possibility to turn your website to whatever you want. Every possibility can be chosen right from your administration panel and this makes wordpress really user friendly CMS.
3. Preparing things for instalation
So now we’ve got some wordpress informations behind and if you still reading after that, you are decided to install it as your own CMS on your website right? So let’s get do this.
Every installation of program needs some preparation before you will do that. this means you have to have everything which the program needs. If you are installing game on your computer, you have to have windos ready on your PC and probably you will need some directX components or some C++ redistributable packs and lot more. If you don’t have them, the game will install them after whole installation of your game.
In wordpress it is not as simple ast that. You will need something what the wordpress can’t install as it own. So you have to prepare everything what it needs. For this you will need some domain, webhosting and database ready.
A lot of webhosting services will allow you to install wordpress from admin panel on the website of your hosting provider but there are some cheap website hosting services which will gives you only DNS settings and some space on their server.
On that kind of hosting you have to connect your domain to this hosting. The domain name you can easily find on namecheap.com. Where you can Save big on domain and hosting transfers with Namecheap! Every web hosting service have some kind of manual which will tells you how to connect your domain to the web hosting service. Please note that for this step you can wait more than one day. Exactly in cheap or free web hosting services.
Fortunately you can buy web hosting and domain on namecheap as well. So this can be the best provider for you. This service also gives you a possibility to install your wordpress from administration area of namecheap so you don’t need to install it by yoursef but this can’t be used for everyone.
Hosting providers will install into your wordpress blogs some metrics which can unfortunetly slow down the loading of your websites and this can’t be good for your position on search engine’s result page so if you mean this trully seriosly that you have to do some job by your own. But more about hosting providers you will find in my article which is part of working online is easy tutorial named domain name and web hosting
If you have a web hosting and domain connected so you have to create some database. In web hosting provider you will have some link to do it. Some of web hosting providers allows you to create random database with some generated username and password right in administration area. In some web hosting services you will see something like this:
This is my dear reader PHPMyAdmin panel where you can set up your new user name and database. This is where someone can stucks on a lot of hours. But don’t worry. You will see that this is pretty easy. Please note that I am not using for security reasons the live web hosting. this is locally created web server where I only operating for this tutorial.
So now how to create database in PHPMyAdmin for wordpress CMS? It is really simple. Everything what you need to go is the panel user accounts:
After you’ll be there you have to create new user. This you can do by clicking on Add user account link in section New:
Ok this section is a little bit complicated but I want to describe it to you as easier as possible. This section start create you a new user for database server. This means you will have access to the database by some username and password. So if you don’t have selected some username so do it now. Lets look on following picture and you will see what to do:
In first field you will write an username which you have to remember because you will use it in wordpress installation. The password you have to have strong or you can generate your own but you have remember it as well too. Next step will create the database with the same name as your username so you will have to write this name twice in wordpress installation. Last thing is grant all privileges to this username and after that you have to scroll down and in bottom right corner you will find the Go button which will create everything for you.
So this is all. You have your username, password and database created with the same name as your SQL user is. So I think that is really great for you and now you can start with something else.
We have from now prepared everything what we need to install wordpress. We have our domain name, website hosting and some empty database created for our new wordpress blogging script. The last thing which we need is that wordpress script which will be running on our domain.
For downloading wordpress as it’s own, you have to go to the wordpress download website (simply click on the link) and there you will choose download and install link:
After you have downloaded wordpress from their website, you have to unpack that zip file and you can start uploading that script on your web hosting FTP server.
This is some kind of trouble for someone. Every web hosting provider have some connecting details to log in to your admin area and to log in to your FTP server. This means that you have to find some manoual on your web hosting provider how to connect to your FTP server by using web brouwser or by using some external aplications. For this reason I fully recommend the filezilla. This client is really fast and really easy to use.
You have to copy your connection settings from your provider and takes it to your filezilla client like is on following picture. Oh, you can download the filezilla by clicking on this link.
Some problems can be if your provider will tells you you have to use some security. This means that some SSL security. At this you have to go to set up an account for this. It stays to saved in your filezilla so you can easily connect to your FTP by only clicking on it. This means that this settings you will pass only once in lifetime.
To do this configuration you will click on the File->Site Manager… Or you can use ctrl+S shortcut to do it. This will opens you a window like this:
In this window you have to click on the New site button and there you will allowed to name your site and paste some settings. This tab has same settings as the previos but you will have selected encryption on the Use explicit FTP over TLS if available. This means that you will have secure transfer of your blog to your FTP server. The host, Port, User and password fields are the same as you have before. So keep the Logon type on value Normal.
If the provider needs some specific types of connecting to your FTP so follow that instructions in your administration area of your web hosting. Your provider have some manuals to you and some of them will helps you with filezilla settings very kindly so don’t hestiate to contact support of your provider to help.
After you are connected to your FTP server with filezilla that will looks like is on following picture:
In left panel you will see your local computer and in right panel you will see what is on your FTP server. Sometimes you have to go into htdocs or www folder on your FTP server to place the files of wordpress there. Now you only need to find on your local computer that downloaded and unpacked wordpress script, select all files in the floder and with right click and selecting upload button, upload it to your FTP like on following picture:
Now it will upload all of your scripts to FTP. Fully recommended to make some cofee because it will takes some time to upload that files on your FTP server. So be patient.
And after you will upload all the files and you have successfully connected your domain to your hosting, you can move to the last step of installing the wordpress itself. You’ve got everything prepared for start with installing.
4. Installing WordPress CMS on my own domain.
Now we have everything prepared and we can now go to your domain by simply typing it to your web browser. I am working on local server so my domain name will be 127.0.0.1/wptest. But your domain will be what you chosen in domain buying so like workingonlineiseasy.com or whatever you have bought. The website will now looks like this:
This is your very first start of wordpress CMS and you have to configure it for your domain name and check your database. This step by step guide will lead you to the end. Don’t be afraid of it. It will be only a few steps and you will have your wordpress installed and prepared. You did the hard work in steps before so now it is only about how great is your preparation.
So as you can see on the picture above you have to select your websites language. If you want to write in your born language so choose it. If you want to have your blog in english language so use English as your language. Please note that the language which you choose will be on whole your website. In titles of everything. The admin area language isn’t only one thing on which have this option some influence.
Ok now we have our chosen language (I will choose english for educational reasons). And what is our next step of installation? The table where the wordpress shows us that we are going to set up our database server connection. This you can skip by pressing Let’s go button. I don’t want to do a photo of this only informational table. That the next step is more interesting so lets take some picture with some description an I will tell you something about it below:
Finally we have some essence from our hard work. This table needs everything which we prepare before. Firstly you have to type in the database name. This is that kind of name which we have created in PHPMyAdmin panel which has same name as the user. So Database name and username will be the same word.
Ok next will be the password. That means that strong password which we have created in PHPMyAdmin panel for our database user. Next field is Database host. this can be a little complicated. Some hosting providers doesn’t use localhost as database host so you have to find some link to your database server in your web hosting administration. it will be in some section called SQL databases or somwhere in manual section in your web hosting provider admin area.
The last field is called table prefix. Your database is now empty but after installation there will be some tbles which the wordpress will create in your selected database and it will be using them to store everything you will do on it. There is settings table, posts table, pages table and more and more tables. This tables have always same names.
But you can be in situation that you want to have more instances of wordpress but you don’t want to create another database for second instancion. You can easily use this field and install it to the same database as previous wordpress instance but with different table prefix. This prefix will be before every table name of this instance.
Let’s take an example. We will have an settings table. First instance of wordpress will have prefix WP_ so table name of settings table will be WP_settings. Second instance of wordpress in same database will have prefix WP2_. settings table of second instance will have name WP2_setting.
This field is recommended to be filled so even if you don’t plannyng to install another instance of wordpress, leave it as it is. You have to have some characters in it written. Otherwise you will can’t to go to the next step.
So if you have filled everything you wanted, you can go to the next step of the installation of wordpress. This is run the installation button. There you only can hit the button and after few seconds you will go to the websote settings tab.
Here we are in first website settings. This have few fields to be filled. Site title is something like name of your website. It can be probably your domain’s name. this will be shown in header tag of your website as title so it will be visible on every page of your website if you will want to.
Second thing is username. You have to set up username for administrator. Please, for security reason, don’t pick admin or administrator as your user name to administartion of your whole web. This can be the newbie mistake and somebody can hack your website really easily.
Password have to be really strong. This account will have access to the whole settings of your website so some security will be great. if you want to be better secure so you can buy to your website domain the https protocol which will secure all of your websites in critical moments like log in to your account and more.
Search engine visibility: you will choose here if you want for your site to be visible in search engines or not. If you leave it unchecked that means that you agree with crawling your website by search engine bots and shows it on their results pages. This means that you will be visible online. I recommend to leave it unchecked. So after you have everything setted up, you can hit the install wordpress button.
After few seconds of crowling, the wordpress will tells you that it is ready to log in. So confirm that message and let’s log in to your new wordpress website. Simply put the username and password and you will be in your administration area. If you will log out, you can simply go to the log in table by using link yourdomain/wp-admin.
So now that’s it. now we have installed our wordpress CMS on our own domain. This was the easiest way how to do it by yourselves. So thank you for reading and I hope that it was helps you. In next article about wordpress, we will be talking about sam basic settings of the website.
